Computex 2015 preview: ASUS, Microsoft, Intel and much more

Computex 2015 preview: ASUS, Microsoft, Intel and much more

One of the world's biggest tech shows is back for another year, and there's going to be plenty in store.

It's Computex[1] time again, when some of the biggest manfacturers in computing get together in Taipei to show off their latest wares. With less of a focus on mobile (though there is still some representation, of course), there's plenty to see from the PC manufacturers.

We've made the trip, and here's a quick run through of what's coming up throughout the coming week.

ASUS Zensation event

ASUS

ASUS[2] is known for going pretty crazy with product launches at its local show and there's little to suggest 2015 will be any different. With the company scheduling it's "Zensation" event a day before the doors to Computex open, it'll be all eyes on them. Any announcements will be split across Windows and Android, with early information suggesting a new smartwatch and range of Android tablets.

But this is ASUS. They're known for making some pretty great laptops, and while we had a couple of announcements not that long ago, who knows what will be left to show off here.

We'll be live with ASUS on Monday, June 1 from 14:30 local time. Taipei is GMT+8 so that's a 07:30 start in the UK and 02:30 on the East Coast. Connection pending we'll be liveblogging the whole thing so stay tuned for more on that closer to go time.

Intel

Computex

Intel is hosting the first official keynote of Computex and since they're powering most of our favourite Windows 8.1 (and soon to be Windows 10) laptops, we're very interested in what they have to say. One thing we do know is that immediately after the keynote, Intel will be delivering a special session dedicated to USB-C and Thunderbolt.

USB-C in particular is something we're about to see a lot more of, so it's well worth hearing what's to be said. Intel's live events start from 14:00 local time on Tuesday, June 2.

Microsoft

Microsoft Forum

Of the big live events, this is one Windows Central readers will likely have the most interest in. As we approach Windows 10's[3] long awaited launch, The Computex Forum will provide yet another opportunity for Microsoft to talk up the new platform. Here's the blurb:

"Nick Parker, Microsoft Corporate Vice President responsible for device partnerships, will deliver a keynote at 2:00pm on June 3rd at the Taipei International Convention Center as part of Microsoft's 13th annual presence at Computex. In the keynote titled "Windows enables new devices & experiences," Parker will discuss Microsoft strategy and the business opportunities the Windows platform creates for partners. He will showcase a range of the latest innovations from our hardware partners from smartphones to tablets, notebooks, all-in-ones and Internet of Things (IoT), and rich new experiences that Windows 10 enables across a range of scenarios."

So, expect some Windows 10, some device talk, and who knows what else. We'll be live with this one in our liveblog from 14:00 local time on Weds, June 3.

Everyone else - Dell, Acer, NVIDIA, AMD and more

NVIDIA

That covers off the biggest of the live events, but there's bunch of other stuff going on that we'll be checking out. NVIDIA is here with the talk being that their big announcement will be the new GTX 980 Ti graphics card. Competitor in that space, AMD, is throwing its own press event on Weds, June 3, and we'll be stopping by both to see what's what.

Dell[4] also has a presence at Computex and while we've heard little in the way of new product rumors, we know how well they can take us by surprise. Remember the unexpected awesomeness from CES this January just gone? So we're excited to see if they've got anything new for us.

Acer has already announced some of its Computex showings, including a couple of new Windows products and an enhanced version of its Liquid Leap wearable. Acer isn't down to throw any live events, but we'll be swinging by the booth to check them out.

And that's just what we know about so far. Computex is chocked full of technology companies, we've got gaming centric representations from the likes of Razer and MSI as well, and a big show floor to explore, since you never know what you'll see away from the home markets. The best way to keep up with what's going on is to keep it locked to the Windows Central homepage over the coming days.
