It now makes perfect sense that Jaden Smith[1] wore a cape to prom last month. The 16-year-old has suddenly emerged as the superhero of the time-tested teen tradition. This weekend, he attended his second prom of the season. If that alone doesn't earn him a prom king title, someone should demand a recount.
He went to the first high school formal[2] with family friend (and Willow collaborator[3]) Mecca Kalani, and his second date—Hunger Games star (and Lorde pal[4]) Amandla Stenberg—was just as rad.
Unlike a few weeks earlier, when he wore a costume straight out of a Marvel comic book, Jaden went with black skinny jeans, an oversized blazer, fresh Nike kicks, and a white A-line calf-grazing skirt. Not technically a superhero uniform like last time, but pretty heroic nonetheless.
She looked like a superheroine in her own right, wearing a gorgeous metallic gown with matching silver-threaded dreads.
Jaden's pushing sartorial gender norms, one prom at a time. Here's to hoping he has a few more on his calendar—we can't wait to see what else he might have up his sleeve (literally speaking...just look at those metallic gloves[7]!).
