Fergie Talks About Her Beauty Idols, Post-Baby Body, and Her Newest Fragrance

Fergie Talks About Her Beauty Idols, Post-Baby Body, and Her Newest Fragrance

Believe it or not, it's been almost a decade since we first heard Fergie[1] trill out "G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S" on her debut solo album, The Dutchess. The album was a risk— it was her first since her break from the Black Eyed Peas[2]—but went on to sell millions and even earned a Grammy nomination for one of its songs. Thankfully, we're in for another round of Fergie-approved anthems with her highly anticipated sophomore album. We got a taste of the part-Latina's new moves, music, and yes, killer body during her American Music Awards appearance last November. The 40-year-old's life is looking pretty freakin' good: Her career is once again taking off, and she has a ridiculously beautiful and supportive family by her side. She shares her outlook with us here.

GLAM BELLEZA LATINA: You and husband Josh Duhamel had son Axl in 2013, and your body looks incredible. Tell us: How?[3]

FERGIE: After my pregnancy I took private dance classes for months to get movement back into my body. We built a dance studio in our house—it's the best gift I've ever given myself! I didn't want to be awkward and embarrassed in front of people, so I worked the kinks out at home.

GBL: We're still obsessed with "Fergalicious," but what can we expect to hear from your new music?

FERGIE: I see the world through Axl's eyes, so it's all about good times and good vibes. With all the negativity in the world, I want to do something positive.

GBL: Do you feel the same way about your latest fragrance[4] with Avon, Outspoken Fresh[5]?

FERGIE: Definitely. Scent is exciting—it's like wearing a whole new outfit. Everything Axl likes is colorful, so I knew the bottle needed to be aqua with a pop of orange.

GBL: What inspired the citrus, flower, and sandalwood scent?

FERGIE: I enjoy including personal touches. When I was growing up, in California, my dad grew blood oranges.

GBL: Speaking of family, your great-grandmother on your father's side was Mexican, which a lot of people may not realize. How do you feel about your heritage today?

FERGIE: I'm very proud to be part Mexican. I'm one of a growing number of Hispanics in America, but you wouldn't necessarily know it. This is becoming the norm, and it's the beauty of our melting pot.

GBL: Have your beauty choices ever been influenced by your Latin roots?

FERGIE: Absolutely. One of my beauty idols was Selena [Quintanilla][6], who had the most beautiful lips. I overline my lips a bit—I completely admit it. I really like the look!
