If you're still cheering for the Dillon Panthers while marathoning Friday Night Lights[1] on Netflix, you may want to sit down. When we caught up with three FNL stars—Stacey Oristano (Mindy Riggins), Derek Phillips (Billy Riggins), and Adrianne Palicki (Tyra Collette)—at the ATX Television Festival[2], they pitched two big spin-offs—and one is closer to happening than you'd think.
This is a big reunion for you all. What was the first thing you did when you saw each other?
Adrianne: We actually see each other in LA all the time, but this is even better.
Derek: This is an excuse to see each other where we used to hang out.
Adrianne: Aw, where we all became friends.
Derek: It feels like a high school reunion.
Where would your characters be now, in 2015?
Derek: Billy might be in a grave—I don't know. [Laughs]
Adrianne: I think Tyra is literally following in the footsteps of Tami Taylor. I think she's counseling at some big college, and she might be married to Tim Riggins, who is a football coach somewhere. They are literally the same couple as Tami and Eric.
If they were to make a Friday Night Lights spin-off with that plot, would you do it? Taylor Kitsch is a little busy right now…
Adrianne: He's kinda busy on that small TV show. That thing about detectives? [Laughs]
Derek: Sounds vaguely familiar...
Would you bring everyone back?
Adrianne: Everyone would have to come back.
Derek: They better!
Stacey: Today I pitched my spin-off to Marta Kauffman, who created Friends. It's called Riggins! and it's me and Billy. We have 10 kids, we live in an apartment in New York City next to Landry, and it's multi-cam. Marta was like, "I'm in!" She's gonna write it. I can die happy.
Derek: Don't say that because they're going to put it in print and they'll think it's real!
Stacey: Marta says she's in, guys!
Adrianne: And her sister has to drop in, obviously.
Stacey: You're there all the time! You and Tim visit.
Derek: Half-hour, multi-cam, laugh track. Done.
