Pretty Little Liars[1] returned for its sixth season last night—but it is the first season that we're going into knowing who "A" officially is[2] (and for real, this time). But while "A" has a name (Charles DiLaurentis) and an alleged twin brother (Jason), there's still plenty of questions and confusion surrounding his identity. Enter this crazy fan theory—that actually makes a lot of sense. See below:

First uncovered by the Huffington Post[3], PLL superfan Dnewt[4] posed this hypothesis on the show's Wiki boards: That Charles is actually Wren, a.k.a. the charming British doctor/Melissa Hastings' ex-fiance/current boyfriend who moved to England in season four.
Dnewt has a very detailed explanation[5] for his theory, but here are the basics: Mr. DiLaurentis and Marion Cavanaugh had an affair, which resulted in "Charles," and placed him up for adoption in another country to keep the tryst a secret. The trauma of the events lands Marion in Radley soon after, where Mrs. DiLaurentis puts two-and-two together and ends up pushing Marion to her death. Later in life, Charles hires a private investigator to track down his birth parents and decides to move to Rosewood to get close to them—as Wren. After discovering the circumstances around his mother's death, he decides to seek revenge against those he thinks are involved (hence, "A" and the game).
Need more evidence? Reddit user redwildcherry7[6] points out that Wren and Charles both have "Love Thy Neighbor" posters in their bedrooms. (See Wren's here[7]; Charles' here[8].) And apparently, using some crazy math, Aria's "Solve for A" quiz[9] spells out "W-R-E-N."[10]
No matter who he really is, we know that ChArles is going to make for one terrifying season, thanks to all the antics in the dollhouse in the season six premiere. But what do you think of the Charles/Wren theory? Could it be true, or is it too far-fetched?
