Your iPhone Will Soon Track Your Period (So You Don't Have To)

Your iPhone Will Soon Track Your Period (So You Don't Have To)

Between Instagram and emojis, Snapchat and Seamless, Twitter and iTunes, you probably thought your phone couldn't possibly be more indispensable...or downright imperative to your daily existence.

You were, of course, wrong. Apple just announced that they have a period tracker in the works, and it'll be a built-in feature on iPhones. That's right: Your device will know it's that time of the month, even if you can never remember it. (You can also set a calendar reminder to buy yourself a bunch of chocolate, because technology's the best, but that's totally optional.)

When you consider that roughly half of all iPhone users are women, it's almost more surprising that Apple, the all-knowing company that they are, didn't think of this sooner. But now is better than never, because while periods are always awful, eliminating the surprise of the whole thing sure makes a difference.

The first iteration of Apple's Health app is already on your iPhone, assuming you've updated your software in the last year—and if you're not already using it, you should, because it keeps tabs on your steps, your sleep, even your inhaler use. At long last, you can add reproductive health to that list. The life-changing feature will be part of the update when iOS 9 rolls out next fall. And we can wait. Period.
