How to Fix Your 3 P.M. Makeup Meltdown

How to Fix Your 3 P.M. Makeup Meltdown

It's 3 P.M. on a Tuesday. You catch a glimpse of yourself in the fluorescent-lit office bathroom and your face has officially melted. How could this have happened, you think to yourself? I have been glued to my desk for the past five hours and yet inexplicably, I look like a weatherworn ship captain with a mess of sea-salt hair (and not the sexy, beachy kind).

This does not, however, need to be your reality. Here's how to steer your face back on track.

For fixing oil slicks... Gold flecked and delicate as tissue paper, Tatcha's Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers[1] absorb excess oil and leave the skin looking squeaky-clean. These sheets totally elevate the oil-blotting game and come in a slender, purse-friendly black tube. Also satisfying: the sight of all that oil transferred onto the sheet.

For fixing dull, vacant, bloodshot eyes... If you spend most hours of your day staring at a computer screen, your eyes can end up looking like a teenage boy's who survives on video games and Doritos. To remedy this, apply two drops of Refresh Tears[2], which leaves eyes looking bright and sparkly. To conceal further signs of fatigue, apply a thin line of black liquid liner to your upper lids (Chanel's eyeliner pen in noir[3] is the easiest to use, and glides on in a pinch).

For fixing dry, ashy skin... For a radiant skin boost, use a face mist like Caudalie Beauty Elixir[4] and spritz until your face looks like you ran through a hyperactive sprinkler. The result is seriously dewy spa-face, not dry office-face.

For fixing dark circles and redness... Long-lasting concealer can only take you so far. Carry a concealer stick (Amazing Cosmetics makes a really creamy glideable crayon[5]) to touch up red spots and dark circles throughout the day. Simply dab on problem areas (especially redness around the nose) to even out skin tone and look instantly refreshed and more awake.

For fixing a lifeless complexion... Never underestimate the power of blush to instantly revive tired-looking skin. Any blush will do, but as a general rule, cheek sticks are the fastest and easiest to use for freshening up. We like Illamasqua Gel Colour in Fluster; it has a cooling effect on the skin, and the color payoff is off the charts.
