Leighton Meester's Cover of "Lovefool" Will Make You Wish It Was 1996 All Over Again

Blair Waldorf wouldn't have been too into the '90s—she preferred her plaid less grunge and more private school. But Leighton Meester[1], on the hand, was more than happy to embrace nostalgia (and subsequently throw us into a tailspin of feelings) with her cover of The Cardigan's late-nineties hit, "Lovefool." She even dressed the part, with a flannel tied around her waist.

You probably remember the song from Cruel Intentions, or maybe from Romeo + Juliet, or perhaps from one of the countless other teen movies and TV shows that have used the desperately yearning love song over the last two decades. (A whole lot of desperate yearning happens in pop culture's portrayal of teen life, it turns out.)

But you definitely don't remember it like this. Leighton gives the karaoke favorite a dream-pop spin with the help of a backing band, staying true to the track's disco vibe while making it feel totally modern. It's never sounded this good when we've covered it at karaoke...
