Iconic '90s movie Clueless could have been a lot different. Director Amy Heckerling recently revealed to Vanity Fair[1] that even though she had her heart set on Alicia Silverstone as leading lady Cher Horowitz, the studio wanted her to consider some other big-name actresses, too.
Among the laundry list of A-listers were Reese Witherspoon, Angelina Jolie, Alicia Witt, Tiffani Thiessen, Keri Russell, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Whoa, can you imagine Kelly Kapowski or Felicity as Cher? And if Reese played her, would she have still snagged the roles of Annette in Cruel Intentions and Elle in Legally Blonde? This could've had a serious domino effect.
Two more big reveals: Paul Rudd's character, Josh, could have gone to Ben Affleck or Zach Braff, and Elisa Donovan's Amber could have gone to Sarah Michelle Gellar. (She would have totally slayed that role. Pun totally intended.)
Even though these stars would have been great additions to the cast, we have to take a line from Cher and say "as if!" to the swaps.
